Real Time Processing Terms
What is
a Merchant Account?
A merchant account is an account set up by a bank that will allow
you to take online credit card transactions. The bank must be
compatible with the two gateways JAC supports — Authorize.Net or Nova
Corporation.
Your merchant account will then collect your funds and deposit them
in the your business bank account you indicate on your application
form.
The funds will appear within 24-72 hours.
What is
a Gateway?
A gateway is what connects the secure JAC shopping cart to your secure
merchant account. The credit card information is passed through this
secure
web pathway where the credit card is authorized and funds transferred
to your checking account.
What is
a Discount Rate?
A discount rate is a fee taken from each transaction that is paid
to the credit card and merchant processing company for processing the
credit
card. The beginning discount rate is 2.40%. This means that if you
have a $10.00 sale $.24 will be deducted from your merchant account
for
that sale. This rate is for Visa and MasterCard only.
What is
a Beginning Discount Rate?
A beginning discount rate means that if your order is an AVS Match
(address verification), your discount rate is 2.40%. If you only
have a partial match, lets say Zip Match, your discount will be slightly
higher since
the complete credit card billing information did not match with the
information entered in the checkout form.
What is
a Transaction Fee?
A transaction fee is the amount charged per sales transaction. The
transaction fee charged is $.43. If you processed 75 sales in
a month the transaction fee taken out of your total processing sales
would be $32.25.
What is
a Statement Fee?
A statement fee is the fee you pay, $10.00, for the paper billing
statement mailed to you each month breaking down your monthly transactions.
What are
Monthly Minimum Processing Fees?
The monthly minimum fee is a fee charged by the credit card company
if the monthly sales volume does not meet the required flat monthly
minimum
rate. For Authorize.Net the minimum fee to be met is $25.00 and Nova
is $15.00. For example: In one month you sold 30 widgets at $10.00
a piece. Your approximate processing fees (discount rate and transaction
fees) would be $20.10. If Nova is your merchant processing account
you
have met the minimum fee of $15.00 so you would not be charged $15.00
for that month. If AuthorizeNet is your merchant processing
account you would be charged the minimum rate, $25.00 because your
fees did not
exceed the minimum $25.00.
* Please note: American Express, Discover, Diner's Club, and ACH
or Electronic Checks are all individual companies with their own fee
structures
and statements. Their fees are not included in the fees listed above
for Nova Corporation or Authorize.Net Merchant Bank accounts. You will
be
charged by each company for their respective fees. If you have any
